Think Small This Holiday Season

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Thursday with family and friends, I'd ask you to toss in one more 'thank you' when you sit around the dinner table.

Small businesses.

These businesses are what make our country run, employing over half of the current work force. They are an integral part of the "American Dream" and are the very heart of the economic engine in local economies ... in YOUR local economy.

These businesses are the chief funding resources for things like church giving, youth leagues and charitable events. They pump as much as three times the money back into the local economy as chain stores do. The economically healthier they are, the healthier we all are.

So when the big box stores open their doors Thursday while you're still sitting at the dinner table, consider taking Friday off to enjoy more time with your family and wait until Saturday to shop with the small businesses in your city. You may pay a little more, but you'll have a connection with the actual owner of the business should something go wrong and you'll be doing yourself and the whole city a bit of good service.
